JCA were commissioned to design the ‘Station’ unit, which comprises ticket, welfare, waiting and offices on a brown field site. The building was conceived as a contemporary rational and efficient light weight structure which responded to the narrow site allocated. The building is a contrast between being a visual focal point and being transparent.
Timber cladding was used to enclose private spaces and create a colour contrast strong enough to make a visual impact. Aluminium curtain walling was used to create a transparency to provide a visual aid to the notification of the movements of buses. A window which wraps around the office enclosure provides further transparency along with 240 degree vision of the site for supervision purpose. External shelter is provided to the building and public via a cantilevered
